[hanging around the courtyard squad... ishikirimaru has been near the coffin in either meditation or prayer, though it's difficult to say which when he's been silent the entire time. once he's finished, though, he stays a bit longer--
and instead of leaving right away, he joins mizuki at the foot of one of the statues, giving them a slight nod of acknowledgment.]
Things aren't that easy. But I've been organizing people that I find suspicious into two groups. Want to hear them?
[ this is a tacit indication that Ishikirimaru isn't in either group, and therefore moderately more trustworthy. For the time being, there's no choice but to take a chance on people they think are unlikely to be villains. ]
I haven't either. Some of these thoughts are based on these profiles, thanks to that, so don't take them as absolute truth - but all I can do is work with what's available to me.
[ a pause while they sort out their thoughts. ]
First of all, the actions taken by people in this game are largely dictated by their gods. We can assume Shiki's killer was most likely encouraged by their god to kill her, if not outright ordered. There are a few gods we can assume are more open to murder than the others, based purely on their associated trait. This much is probably obvious to you already, but the four most likely to permit violence are Disorder, Ruin, Ambition and Indulgence, in my opinion. Justice is also a potential, but considering who was killed and Justice's age, I'd consider him unlikely in this particular scenario. With that in mind, the two groups...
[ Mizuki lifts one finger. ]
First off, people that I think might belong to one of those four gods' sects. Out of people I've spoken to, I think Goro-san, Chuuya-san, Berry-kun, Uchiha-kun and Blackfire-kun tend towards those elements. Based on their statues, I'd also consider Gau, Shang Qinghua, Kogoro Mouri, and Senri Nito to fit the profile. [ lifting another finger. ] The other group is people that I think would be capable of killing Shiki based on the dream we had. She was burned to death after being chased. So, someone with weapons knowledge and stamina, possibly with divine assistance. Uchiha-kun and Goro-san have that. Based on their profiles, Sakunosuke Oda and Jakuzure-kun might also be capable of it.
[ a pause. ]
I'm not blaming any of these people yet. But in terms of combat ability as witnessed in the dream or their loyalty to a more violent emotion, they seem the most likely.
[there's a pause on his end as well while he takes all of that in, humming thoughtfully to himself.]
I do not believe I disagree with you outright on much of this. However, which of the Uchihas are you including, if not both? [though really, he is assuming both, considering their plaques.]
As far as the ones you believe capable of killing her, I have only really spoken with Jakuzure, but she was... rather strange. A bit difficult to get a read on.
I've only met the younger... but, considering his statue mentioned killing a family, it's safe to say the elder Uchiha can probably be included, too.
[ what a nice family. Guess Itachi missed one. ]
Jakuzure-kun is a bit unfriendly, but she's a teenage girl. Still, her statue said she knows how to use a rocket launcher. If we believe what they say, she's definitely capable of using some kind of firebomb.
[after taking a little time to complete those prayers, ishikirimaru makes his way to the parlor-- it was this or the armory, honestly, but the latter doesn't seem as much mizuki's style, and he prefers not to have an audience if he's going to go and hit something very hard for a while.
so. he takes a seat silently, glancing up to them after a few moments.]
[ they're hardly okay with four people getting knocked off just like that -- they've just become good at compartmentalizing. If they think too hard about this, they'll get really upset. ]
I have a lead on which god might be behind one of the murders. Chuuya-san had a messy breakup with his patron deity recently.
And you believe they may have had someone kill him for it?
[he recalls the theory being floated last week, after what senri said about shiki... an unpleasant idea, but not out of the question.]
Mm. If they're the type, I suppose it wouldn't be unreasonable, in a game like this; if you know someone will refuse to support you, you don't lose a potential follower by removing them.
[so probably at some point after the whole group meeting thing happens, ishikirimaru goes to track down mizuki and pull them aside, wherever they happen to be.]
Mizuki-san. Do you have a moment? I'd like to ask about your plans for the night, if you don't mind.
[we're out here tracking people down and hoping they're not all spread the heck out, tbh.]
[ they're in their usual spot!! AKA the parlor. Their little sleeping spot in the booth is even all decked out with new blankets taken from the east wing, so now it's super comfy (?). Not that they're in it right now. They wave at him, then laugh gently under their breath at his question. ]
You're such a gentleman. [ if anyone else asked them that question, they'd think twice, but Ishikirimaru is a pure-hearted man (sword.) ] I don't have any, actually.
[IT'S MY TURN TO GO 'I DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT THAT'. lord.
ishi's just going to go ahead and take a seat, then, giving them a small smile in response.]
I'm glad you think so. [he is definitely a gentleman, thank you.] Ah, but I only meant to check whether you were sleeping here; I take it that answers my question.
[a gesture at the blankets in the booth, there.]
Though if you have no plans before then, I have no other pressing business. I'm already aware of the others I am trying to keep an eye on.
[it's teasing, though-- he could try, maybe, but would it work? that's the real question. does ishi have an outright rude bone in his body, we do not know.
but he raises a brow at that last bit.]
I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by that. [a pause, before:] I am familiar with the phrase, however.
[he knows what it means, not why he should be concerned.]
Right, right. What are you doing roughhousing with Majima-kun so much? I'd expected it from a meathead like that guy, but you should know better, Ishi-san. If you get injured during the week, you could get in trouble tonight - especially you.
[ since he's going to be wandering the halls and all. ]
[he at least has the decency to look a bit guilty at that, glancing away for a moment.]
He wanted to spar, since we might not have gotten another chance for it. When I agreed to using steel I was unaware he intended to fight as if he actually meant to kill me-- that man reminds me of some of the other swords more than any human I've met.
[there's a note of curious interest there, actually.]
I didn't intend to actually hurt him, but I did at least see to both our wounds after.
[ yeah, they're also not surprised that this is actually Majima's fault. Mizuki sighs, sounding exasperated, and shakes their head, slumping against the table a little bit. ]
So that's what happened, huh. Geez, men are so violent. [ ?? ] Just be careful. I'd be sad if either of you two really got hurt, you know?
[ how did they make friends with a bunch of dumb jock boys!! ]
[probably right up until majima or a certain other person wants to fight again, but listen, he'll do his best. he bows his head a bit and everything, before reaching out to pat their shoulder reassuringly.]
Whatever happens, I can take care of myself.
[and with a little grin, he adds, more teasingly:]
I would say you ought to be careful as well, but you've never given me the impression that it's a reminder you need.
[ although... considering their other thing fell through, it's probably worth mentioning this to him. Ishikirimaru's no slouch when it comes to fighting, either. ]
... To tell you the truth, though, I'm not one of those violent types. I can't really fight at all. [ they sound slightly sheepish. ] I wouldn't complain if you checked in during your nightly rounds. Just don't peek at my sleeping face.
slumping into a seat with his tea, holding the cup with both hands while it's still warm. he is cold and he is exhausted and mizuki is basically the only person here he will allow to see him pretending a little less that he's not just tired in his damn soul.]
Is this truly going to get worse every time, Mizuki-san?
[ they can't help chuckling a little over his miserable appearance, even if they're feeling tired and antsy all at the same time, themself - he usually has such a dignified carriage. ]
I've never seen such a sad, droopy Ishi-san. Are you going to be okay? I can lend you a blanket.
[ they'd offer their jacket but it definitely would not fit ]
